Hello hello!
As I was going through some old pictures today I happened upon this image. It was taken as the sun was disappearing on the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
Such a serene image, fitting for my Saturday. Enjoy!

ps. this image was taken and cropped to a square before instagram existed ;)

Business as Usual... or not.
Business- the career fair came to my university this past week. I captured students eager to network, conversing with recruiters and clutching resumes hopefully. I was out shooting on campus for an in-class photography assignment and captured this trio of male students passing by. I love how in synch their steps, outfits, and presentation are.
as Usual- still photography is my usual. What happens when I animate it?
This!
I'm excited to share, so I'm posting Wednesday's blog early! This is what I made while procrastinating editing other images for my photo project:
I hope you enjoyed the outcome of my little playdate with animation! I sure did. I love the little details I only saw after animating it:
1. The man that appears on the left side for a second
2. How the boy in the white shirt on the right looks up in the third frame
3. The man on the left (in front of the walkers) raising the umbrella -- what a cool detail I would have completely missed otherwise!
Guess I discovered a benefit of animation firsthand!
Photographically yours,
Kylie

Mini-Series #2: Shadow play
Hello again! Back for my daily photo blog.
If we're being candid and honest here, producing blog-worthy photographs every day is difficult. I don't want to put images out "just to post today", but I also don't want to become lazy and not blog. I've gotten some great feedback (which means so much-- feel free to contact me at kylienicphoto@gmail.com) and I owe it to my readers to keep up regular blogging. So I'm going to keep working through it! Follow along with me.
I shot over 30 gigs of images this weekend (you call it overkill, I call it inspiration) so I'll be set for awhile :) Stay tuned for some big series in the coming weeks.
For now, here's some sweet shadow play:

City Reflections Los Angeles
Cities (Los Angeles in particular) are great to start with. Add a super cool reflection in a building window and you've got a sick photograph. Enjoy!

Fancy Car Friday- Los Angeles Arts District
Check this sucker out! I was exploring Los Angeles with a friend and happened upon this cherry red Lincoln in the parking lot. It was beautifully waxed and washed-- there were still droplets on the handle, check them out on the image below!
We were en-route to the trendy LA eatery, Wurstkuche. They have a wide variety of sausages on delicious buns, great topping and the most AMAZING fries with tons of dipping sauce options. I want to go back right now! Check them out: www.wurstkuche.com
Also in the area is an adorable, funky art store, Poketo. I had to pull myself out of the store!
We came back for dinner at a trendy small plates place, Americano. Their motto: eat, drink, Americano. Again, so great!
Basically, this area is so trendy. and artsy. I want to live here.
Until next time,
Kylie

Kathryn Gallagher
I had the pleasure of photographing an AMAZING line up at Tommy's Place a few weeks ago; Aaron Childs, Kathryn Gallagher and Tyler Mann. Such a talented bunch! Below are two of my favorites of Kathryn. She's such a beauty to photograph as well as a talented singer, songwriter and performer. I just love these images!
Such a beautiful songstress.
There are more from the night, including images of Aaron and Tyler on facebook! I'll blog them soon :)

Thornton Pop Junior Performance Final Fall 2012
I took over 500 pictures this night! I always have such a hard time paring down my images from these events. The ones I selected to display below I like because they capture the energy and passion of the night; these students are doing what they love full out. They have put aside all other interests and obligations in life to pursue music. That's so inspiring-- it inspires me to push myself photographically. These images capture emotions that speak to my soul.
I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed taking them and watching the students perform!
Aaron Childs catches sick air as his back-up vocalists look on with wide smiles.
Sing it!
I love this candid smile exchange.
The drummer, positioned in the back of most bands, tends to get left out of images; not the case in this sick picture!
Sing it, Nina!
Maddie Ross and her band belt it out.
A musical exchange between violin and guitar.
GO Madison and Segun!
Josh Goldberg on the keys.
Rock on, my friends.
Photographically yours,
Kylie

Chandelier Perspectives
Hello again!
You're in for a treat: more photos! This photo class is doing me well, having me flex my creativity muscles and have a BLAST pursuing my PASSION yet again! woot woot!
These images were shot as a response to a prompt to explore an object, photographing it from very different perspectives and distances.
I am so pleased with my result! I have about 100 images of this chandelier, but these 4 were my final project. I love how the light plays with the glass shapes!
Check out the reflections in this next one: mirrors on mirrors! I also love the star shape the light makes coming out of the candles :)
Yay! Thanks for reading! More images yet to come, so stay tuned.

Kylie

And a little geometry & symmetry for you. Miranda (a classmate) referred to it as a snowflake:
