Chandelier Perspectives

Hello again!

You're in for a treat: more photos! This photo class is doing me well, having me flex my creativity muscles and have a BLAST pursuing my PASSION yet again! woot woot!

These images were shot as a response to a prompt to explore an object, photographing it from very different perspectives and distances. 

I am so pleased with my result! I have about 100 images of this chandelier, but these 4 were my final project. I love how the light plays with the glass shapes!

BEAR ATTACK at Tommy's Place USC!

Bear Attack played Tommy's Place Friday night. It was an AMAZING show! This band is extremely talented-- and not to mention simply wonderful people! Here are some of my favorite artsy shots from the night. I love playing with the lights on stage!

Dorm Room Lighting Techniques

Hello friends!

As a part of my photo-extravaganza last weekend, I experimented with some desktop studio lighting. Inspired by Edward Weston's beautiful black and white produce photography (such as the pepper pictured below), I decided to photograph a strawberry.

 I found a berry with a nice dent in it-- I wanted one with a dent or some sort of imperfection in it that would be accentuated with the hard lighting and shadows it produced. Hearkening back to my days in AP Photo class, I set up shots of hard and soft lighting.  Note how the hard light hits the strawberry below:

Like I said before, I did this all atop my desk. I placed a plate with a strawberry on it in front of my window, set up a white backdrop, and then used my desk lamp to project dramatic light down onto the berry. The light was positioned out of the top left of the frame.

Here is the same strawberry, this time lit with soft light: the light from the window alone.

Looks a lot more appetizing, huh? My photography class loved the emotion in the first one, saying it looked evil or menacing, while the second strawberry looked ripe and ready to eat.

What a difference lighting can make!

Gingerbread Houses!

Christmas... in February? Better late than never! Here are some images of the gingerbread house I made this year. My family goes all out- I was raised decorating gingerbread houses, and each year gets more and more ornate. This year I created my own little red and green Ski Chalet. Wish I could actually move into it in the Swiss Alps! Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Perspectives

I committed a photographic faux-pas and neglected to ever retrieve the following images from a memory card. I found said images this morning, and was so excited when I did. I feel like these images capture the spirit of autumn; the crisp breeze and leaves, the changes in the air, the colors... Enjoy!

I love the combinationw of the warm browns against the bright blue sky in this image.

Mora Mora @ GZ for Dance Marathon!

A few weeks ago, Trojan Dance Marathon had a concert/ mini-dance marathon at Ground Zero, a coffee shop (and phenomenal milkshake place) here on campus. Not only is the fare great-- the music is too! Mora Mora and Bear Attack played that night; unfortunately I had class during Bear Attack's set, but I did see them this past Friday- pictures coming soon :)

Lee Skylar @ USC

Lee Skylar is perhaps the most recorded and toured bassist of all time. He came to visit the USC Thornton Popular Music Program at Pop Forum on a Friday in January. As some of you know, I photograph for the Pop Program and love capturing the moments between the students and industry professionals they bring in.

As my friend Brett wrote on the USC Thornton Pop Blog, "Lee Skylar was Flippin' Awesome!"
